What are the consequences for trade?

The Philippines in COVID-19 lockdown

Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Since the 4th of August, the Philippines are in strict lockdown. This means many manufacturers are dealing with deficient and delayed supply capabilities.

Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine

On August 4th, Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Philippines declared a return to a more stringent quarantine protocol called Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine. This means that, amongst other things, people are no longer allowed to use public transportation. As a consequence, workers struggle to find transportation from home to work.

Our suppliers in the Philippines

Our suppliers are working hard to make sure they can deliver on all of their orders. This means they have to come up with ways to work around the barriers the lockdown created for their productivity. Not only the factories, but also the transport companies are hit by this lockdown. This results in deficient supply capability and delayed shipments.

Finding solutions with our suppliers

We stay in close contact with our suppliers to stay up-to-date on the situation. Furthermore, we support our suppliers by actively searching for ways to keep them up and running in these difficult times. For example, we are working on creating transportation options for their workers so that they can safely get to work from home.

What does it mean for you?

We work hard to make sure you will get your order on time. In these times, when measurements in the countries we work with are constantly changing, we are challenged to be flexible and patient. The lockdown in the Philippines means that Philippine products are scarce at the moment and can at times be delayed. We are doing our best, together with our suppliers, to minimize you nuisance on this matter.
